3) Characters and their transformation

The Great Dictator
The Great Dictator is a satiric comedy realised by Charlie Chaplin in 1941. This movie is a virulent critic against the Third Reich and particulary the main leaders Hitler, Goebbels and Goring.
This movie is the greatest success of Charlie Chaplin in spite of his prohibition in many Europen countries such as France up to 1945 and also in Germany.

This movie was saw by a specific German ; Adolf Hitler who saw this film two times. It's possible that  Hitler laughed, I know that it's very strange and contracdictory but he had a great sense of Humor. It's very contradictory because this movie is opposed in all themes at Hitler and more generally at the Nazis.

Charlie Spencer Chaplin Junior was born on 16 April 1889 and he died on 25 December 1980. He is very famous for his comedian talent and his engaged comedies such as Modern Times (1936) or even The Kid (1921). Charlie Chaplin is certainly one of the most famous comedian of the XXth century.

He was born the same year, the same month and the same week that Hitler. It's one of the reasons for his intyerest for Hitler.
Chaplin was also revolted by the Hitler's anti-Semitism. The legend said that Chaplin was himself Jew but he refused to confirm or refute this information.

During the First World War, an anonymous private, (Chaplin) fighting in the army of Tomania, effects the valiant rescue of an officer named Schultz, but suffers loss of memory when the plane in which they are flying crashes into a tree. The little soldier is sent to a hospital where he remains for the next 20 years, unaware of the changes. He doesn't know, for instance, that Hynkel (also played by Chaplin) has become Dictator of Tomania, and is persecuting the jews.
I love this film for many reasons.
First, this film is an excellent comedy which links perfectly the tragic and the comic. This movie links perfecly the tragic with Hynkel's racist speeches and the comic with the debilty, the nonsense of the little soldier.
Secdondly, there are many scenes where it's impossible to watch an other things. Even, there are many scenes which marked the cinema such as the famous Globe Scene when Hynkel dances with the ''World''.
Thirdly, it's a perfect movie, such as the music, the scenery the jews ghetto and the screenplay which is excellent and in a perfect adequacy with the action.
Finally, I think that it's a perfect movie realised by an excellent film director Chaplin. Inddead it's an excellent movie which allows to discover the Second World War with an other point of view.

6) The world of Imagination

The Silence of the lambs

The Silence of the lambs is a thriller directed by Jonathan Demme and realized in 1991. This movie won the main awards during 1992 whose five oscars, two BAFTA and one Golden Globe.

This movie is based upon the novel with the same title. This former was written by Thomas Harris and was published in 1988.

Jonathan Demme was born on 12 February 1944 in Long Island, New-York. He is very famous for The Silence of the Lambs (1991) and Philadelphia (1993).

Clarice Starling is pulled from her training at the FBI Academy at Quantico,Virginia by Jack Crawford of the Bureau's Behavioral Science Unit. He tasks her with interviewing Hannibal Lacter, a former psychiatrist and incarcerated cannibalistic serial killer, believing Lecter's insight might be useful in the pursuit of a serial killer nicknamed ''Buffalo Bill'', who skins his female victims corpses.

There are two themes very importants in this movie. First the theme of the madness with the killer ''Buffalo Bill'' and even the asylum ''Baltimore'' where Hannibal Lecter is thrown. Secondly , the theme of the double is also explored with ''Buffalo Bill'' who suffers of dissociative identity desorder.

The movie is also famous for the character of Hannibal Lecter whose the horrible action terrify the viewer. Besides the viewer is always between the fear and the laugh on account of Hannibal who has an absolute cynicism and dark comedy.

A little anecdote , on the movie poster there is a butterfly with a skull but it's not a skull , it's a reproduction of Salvador Dali's photo In Volupta Mors.

I decided to present this film because it's one of my favourite movie and I like for numerous reasons.

First, the excellent actors and actress (Hopkins and Foster) allow to appreciate the movie ; there is a perfect alchemy between Jodie Joster and Anthony Hopkins. Moreover, the excellent Hopkins thanks to his talent provocate an effect of fear on the viewer which gives at the movie a really suspense.

Secondly, the music is also very important because it brings a great suspense. Besides, the choice of the music is very interesting and in perfect adequacy with the action.

Thirdly, the film is not based only on the hunt of Buffalo Bill but also the story of Hannibal Lecter and the past of Clarice Starling. The screeplay is very excellent.

Finally, the movie is excellent ; at neither moment, the viewer is annoyed. Besides, the suspense is present during all the movie.

1) The author's voice, the author's playing with language

My life, Al Capone

My life is an ''autobiographic'' book written by Alphonse Gabriel Capone surnamed ''Scarface'' on account of his long scar on his cheek. This book was written between 1939 and 1947.

Al Capone was born on 17 January 1899 in New-York,New York and he died on 25 January 1947 in Miami Beach, Florida.
He was a criminal during the prohibition era in the United States. He was arrested and thrown into jail not for his activities about alcohol and murders but for tax evasion. He was thrown in the famous jail Alcatraz.

Al Capone was certainly the most famous gangster of the world. Especially for the murders such as the famous ''Saint Valentine's Day Massacre'' or even for his famous quotes. This is a few quotes :

''You can get much farther with a kind word and a gun than you can with a kind word alone''.

'' I've been accused of every death except the casualty list of the World War''.

''Don't mistake my kindness for weakness. I am kind to everyone, but when someone is unkind to me,weak is not what you are going to remember about me''.

This book is not really an autobiography because Al capone wrote this book for his glory and he invents events or changes the reality.

I love this book for numerous reasons.

First, I love the era of the prohibition and the point of view of the greatest symbol of this dark period, Al Capone the most powerful man in Chicago  is very interesting. Besides, this testimony is incomparable because it 's the testimony of a person who knew all the mechanism of the prohibition and the corruption.

Secondly, I find that this book brings a new lighting about this period.

Thirdly, it's also interesting to read this book in order to know the opinion  of his gangster about his condamnation or even the events of his era.

Finally, this book allows to know the personality of Al Capone in his private life.
